Gear Up for Epilepsy was inspired by a young cyclist, Charlie, who dreamed of riding with his father across the United States.Unfortunately, he would not be able to accomplish that dream as his ride was cut short by SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death from Epilepsy) in August of 2016.
Every year, 3,000 people in the United States die from SUDEP.
On June 18, 2017, Charlie’s parents, Clif and Arleen and several of their friends and family departed on a 2-month, 3,712 mile cross-country bicycle trek that their son dreamed of accomplishing.Together, the Coast to Coast for Charlie Team supported by its community and other Gear Up for Epilepsy cyclists, supported by their friends, family and communities rode over 20,000 miles and raised over $54,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation and its SUDEP Institute.
