We are thrilled to be hosting our 3rd annual Katie Johanni Memorial tournament this November. Katie was so much more than simply our goalie. She was our teammate, our friend, and the constant ray of sunshine in our lives. Tragically, Katie had a seizure and passed away in her sleep November 24, 2015. SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy) had taken our sweet girl from this world. Ever since then, we have been dedicated to living our best lives, through kindness and dedication, like Katie would’ve wanted us to.
Over the past two Katie Johanni memorial tournaments, we have raised over $20,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation. Although having epilepsy threw innumerable obstacles in her way, she always persevered. She never stopped living her best life. She continued her participation in the competitive and high-energy sport of water polo, bringing joy and positivity to every life she encountered.
For our 3rd annual memorial tournament, we hope to grow our total donation to the Epilepsy Foundation by even more, with a goal of fundraising at least $3,000. The OSU Women’s Water Polo team will also personally match the first $1,000 donated to the cause.
On November 4-5, we will have 8-12 women’s teams from across the country come together and compete in the sport that gave Katie so much joy. We want to continue the legacy that she left on us, one of kindness, inclusivity, and warmth. Each donation you make will be going directly to the Epilepsy Foundation and will help contribute to research on things like SUDEP.
We look forward to seeing you at our tournament, and deeply appreciate your donation to this worthy cause.
