I am raising funds to make a difference in the lives of people living with epilepsy. All money raised goes to the Epilepsy Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives.
Last year I was diagnosed with epilepsy that had been misdiagnosed/undiagnosed since my teens. Seven years ago I started having hundreds of seizures per year. They're now controlled with medication, but I've gained weight from the meds and want to lose it and get back into shape. My cardiologist just cleared me to exercise and lose weight after having emergency open heart surgery that saved my life from an undiagnosed birth defect. I will be walking/hiking/exercising, often with our recently rescued adorable senior lab and with my sweetie. My Summer Fitness Challenge goal is to lose 5 pounds, and then ultimately 20 pounds by the end of the year.
The senior population is the fastest growing group with epilepsy and I want to support the effort to help with research and awareness. Seniors can have a form of epilepsy most people are not even aware of that presents differently than expected. Some people are not even aware they have it themselves, and occasionally it is even misdiagnosed as dementia. Although it appears mild and can go unnoticed by family and healthcare providers, it often causes serious cognitive and memory impairment. The good news is that it can now usually be easily controlled with medication!
Please support this cause by making a safe and secure donation to my fundraising webpage. Giving to the Epilepsy Foundation means you make the world a better, easier, more manageable place for the 3 million people in the U.S. who are living with epilepsy and seizures.
