Strollin' for Sammy

WELCOME TO OUR TEAM PAGE!

This will be the 9th year that our team "Strollin' for Sammy" will be participating in the National Walk for Epilepsy.

For us, the walk has huge personal significance since our Sammy has a very complex and difficult to control case of epilepsy.  It has been a daily battle since he had his first seizure on Mother's Day of 2008.  For those who know Sammy's story, you know he has had to endure more than most of us have to deal with in a lifetime.  His epilepsy has progressed over the years to the point where he was having over 100 seizures a day, and having difficulty walking and talking.  He has tried almost every anticonvulsant medication that is currently available, has had epilepsy surgery to remove a particularly overactive part of his brain, and has a Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) device implanted in his body to help keep his brain from getting overexcited with seizure activity.  With the help of some amazing doctors, we currently have Sammy in a stable place with a combination of 5 medications and the VNS device.

Sammy has been a fighter since the day he was born, and he will continue to fight his way through this disorder, but we need your help!  We have set our fundraising goal at $27,000 this year.  For the last 4 years, our team has placed in the top 3 for most amount of money raised for the walk, and this year we are shooting for 1st place!  Funding from this walk will go towards research and development of better drugs, procedures, devices, diets etc that we are going to need in the future to help Sammy with his battle.

So how can you help? There are several ways!

  • Make an online donation if you are unable to join us in person. The process is fast, easy, and secure. I truly appreciate any support you can provide. It will benefit a great cause!
  • Make an offline donation by mailing a check to Dana Annis at 208 Twelve Oaks Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20878.  Please make checks payable to the National Walk for Epilepsy Foundation.
  • Join our team as a walker or a virtual walker to help raise funds for people living with epilepsy.
  • If you can't make a donation at this point, help us reach our goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter! Or, even better, send an e-mail to friends you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to my page!

We set an ambitious fundraising goal and your help means so much to us and to those living with epilepsy.

Thanks so much for your generosity and support. I will keep you posted on my progress!
